Stevie & Luke’s Story

A dream deferred - a Shared Ownership success story
For Stevie and Luke, the journey to homeownership was marked by both hope and hesitation. As a Customer Service Advisor and a Water Technician, they understood the value of hard work and careful planning. Yet, like so many others in Ramsey, Cambridgeshire, rising living costs and economic uncertainty made the idea of buying a home feel distant. Renting privately offered shelter, but never quite the sense of permanence they longed for.
Their first attempt to buy a house came just before the cost-of-living crisis. The timing could not have been more difficult. When their offer fell through, disappointment set in. Affordability seemed a constant barrier, and the prospect of starting again felt daunting. Still, they kept searching, determined to find a way forward.
Mill View, a new development in the heart of Ramsey, quickly caught their attention. Surrounded by the gentle Cambridgeshire countryside and close to the town’s historic centre, it promised more than just a fresh start. It offered community, green spaces, and a chance to put down roots. At first, Stevie and Luke hesitated. They decided to wait, weighing their options carefully. But by the time they were ready, every home at Mill View had been reserved.
“We were interested in the development even before the houses had been built but decided to wait for a few reasons,” Luke recalls. The disappointment was real. Yet, fate intervened. A friend noticed that one home had unexpectedly come back on the market. Without hesitation, Stevie and Luke acted. They reserved their place, grateful for a second chance.
Stevie had a basic understanding of Shared Ownership. She knew it could be the key to unlocking a new home, one that was truly theirs from the start. “We knew this would be our best option to purchase a brand-new house as a blank slate with little to no issues,” she explains. The lower deposit and manageable monthly payments made the dream of homeownership achievable, even in challenging times.
Now settled in their new home, Stevie and Luke reflect on the journey. “I think there is always a reason not to do it,” Luke says thoughtfully. “But knowing you maybe have your forever home, even if it takes a while, will be so very worth it.”
Their story is one of perseverance and hope. Shared Ownership at Mill View provided not just a house, but a sense of security and a future to look forward to. For anyone considering their own next step in Ramsey or beyond, Stevie and Luke’s experience is a gentle reminder: sometimes, the right opportunity is closer than you think-and with a little courage, home really can be yours.
