Living with his family, Ryan decided that it was time to work towards a place of his own. He explored his options, including renting, but the opportunity to own a home was what mattered most to him. “I looked at renting and options like that, but I never liked the idea of never owning anything,” he explains. “Once I learned about Shared Ownership, I was set on this being the way I was going to go forward.” While saving for his deposit, Ryan spent time researching how Shared Ownership worked, giving him a good understanding of the route he wanted to take before contacting Homemade Homes. His online search eventually led him to Monks Meadow in Spalding, in an area that suited his needs.
Ryan chose to reserve off plan, meaning his home was still under construction and he had not yet been able to view it in person. Having family in the business helped him understand what to expect, but he admits there were still some nerves at the beginning. It was the openness and professionalism of the team that helped him feel more comfortable about moving forward. “I was a bit nervous at the start, but with how professional and open the process has been, it has made me a lot more comfortable,” he says. For Ryan, that reassurance mattered: although he could not yet walk through the rooms, he felt confident enough to take the next step towards a home of his own.
With his home reserved, Ryan found that support through the sales process gave him space to think about his move. He describes the experience as “very stress-free”, explaining that having others handling much of the sales process helped him focus on preparing for his next chapter. “I can just plan around moving in and other things instead of worrying about the legal side,” he says. While there was still the anticipation of seeing his home for the first time, the support he received helped him feel more at ease and concentrate on the things he was looking forward to.
When Ryan was finally able to visit, stepping inside brought home the significance of the decision he had made. “It was surreal. The moment I walked in, it just really hit me that I had bought a house,” he recalls. After imagining his home from the plan, seeing it in person exceeded his expectations. “It was better than I could have hoped. The plan did not do it justice, as it looked so much better in person.” That first viewing was the moment the plans became something tangible: the home he had researched, saved towards and reserved while it was still being built was now somewhere he could walk through. What began as a goal to move out of his parents’ house had become an exciting next step—and seeing his home gave him even more to look forward to.
